Hi there!
I'm Jamie Lisa Lee, MSc Candidate at King's College London.
Psychology has always fascinated me, beginning with understanding my role within the family and how family dynamics play out and shape the adult we become.
You might know me as an astrologer, art therapist, first aid responder, yoga teacher, youtuber, fashion model and many other things... but I am starting this blog article with Why the Pain to share and re-educate the public about what this practice is all about.
It starts with this quote, "Don't ask why the addiction, but ask why the pain."
This is from Dr Gabor Mate, a holocaust survivor, physician, and trauma expert.
The human experience can’t be treated with a one-size-fits-all approach.
This practice for exploring the intersection of mind, body, and meaning. I have many tools in my toolbox, the scope is wide because the pain is layered.
With myself and Dr Akita, we're here to re-educate and reframe. Because what you've been taught about healing may be incomplete. And what you've normalized as 'coping' might actually be self-abandonment.
Let’s talk about modalities.
In 2016 I got certified with the IAPCH for conversational hypnotherapy. I use conversational hypnotherapy to access the subconscious, the part of you that runs the show when you’re too tired, too scared, or too stuck to take control.
If you're wondering, no, this isn’t swinging pendulums or a pocket watch in front of you, nor will there be collapsing on stage or any such theatrics. This is a language used with precision, care, and clinical intention to shift patterns in real time.
Next, I incorporate art therapy for the moments when words aren’t enough. The body moves before the mind can explain. And in that gap, something sacred speaks. I spent 3 years in design/art school, and got a certificate on art therapy from Lasalle College of the Arts in 2019.
I offer astrological consultation for mapping patterns. For recognizing how your timing, your temperament, and your trauma often align with the sky, not because the stars control us, but because they mirror us. I've been an astrologer for more than a decade, and I started this young.
I've got multiple certs under my belt, but astrology is one of those schools where the learning never really quite ends. There's just so much to learn, just like in medicine.
I bring in yoga and somatic awareness to ground the work. The body remembers what the mind forgets. So we move. We breathe. We return.
And when needed, I draw on my emergency response training because safety, containment, and readiness matter. Especially when we’re dealing with pain that’s long been ignored.
So, welcome to Why the Pain?
Nice to meet you and let’s begin!
